Exam’s OVER!!! May 30, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — littleburrow @ 8:19 am

YEAH!! Finished my June As examination on Tuesday and now I have the mood and time to blog and update my blog.. Hahaha.. Need to clear all the spider webs.. xp~ As I promised on the previous post(if you still remembered), I’m going to post about the Belalong Trip~

On the 18th of March which 1st term holiday, Bio Dept offered 20 Bio students to go for a trip at Belalong organised by UBD.. So I did sign up and thanks to MD for subsidising more than half of the fees.. Each students need to pay only $50 for 4 days and 3 nights!!

So let’s start the journey~

Mizah, Mimi and Amal on the speed boat going from Brunei Jetty to Temburong Jetty

Michelle and Ik

Since the ride was about 45 minutes so I took some pictures of Brunei’s forest

BRUNEI IS SO GREEN!!~ XP

Finally after a long and dizzy ride, we reached Temburong Jetty

Welcome To Temburong District~!!

Everyone took their own bags and wondered around Temburong town for about 15 miuntes to buy some drinks and snacks

Everyone on the road going to another point where the long boats are..

There~ Life jackets on!

All of us ready for ride on the long boat to the KBFSC’s center

The newly renovated center

Can you believe there is a plasma TV here? But then we didn’t manage to switch on the TV because I think there’s no signal.. -_-”

Views from our living room and room that we lived in~

The electricity were run by generators so light and fans will be off from 11pm-6am and 9am-4pm..

It was super duper hot at noon which we always came back for lunch!!

These were my room mates~

Janessa, Rafidah and Yee Hui

We spent our first night in the lab.. The UBD’s teacher briefed about Temburong Forest and what are going to do the next morning.. She did show us some specimens of preserved animals and plants..

One showing us a purple snake (forgot the name) and one showing us a wood which cost for millions of dollars..  $_$

On the way to our chalet, Siddeq found a huge beetle on the floor and picked it up!!

Well, for the first night, I didn’t sleep well and woke up at 5 a.m!! Anyways, most of the girls didn’t sleep well though~ After eating breakfast, we went up about 50m of stairs and hiked along Ashton Trail.

Group photo before going up the stairs~

We went on the Ashton Trail for the 1st day and Sungai Mata Ikan for the 2nd day. We hiked for 3km up hill down hill and it was DAMN TIRING but it was fun to interact with the nature.. Especially with the sound of the hornbills =)

Delicious foods after the hike~ hahaha..

Oh yea, we saw the German researchers sun bathing.. hahaha..

After lunch, we went back to our chalet and the next activity was insect catching and preserving!! This was the most easiest part of the whole trip!! Because all you need to do was just catch it, kill it (suffocate it with chemical), poke it with needle and tada!! So easy (but cruel) and you don’t need to hike! hahhaa..

We were divide in to groups of 5 people and start catching!!

Killing and Poking~

These were the insects that our group caught~ After these, the UBD’s teachers will put them into the oven to ‘bake them’.. so that there won’t be any water molecules in it..

Well basically, that was what we did for the first day.. and of course we did take some pictures around center

Had all the girls taking picture with Ms. Lim since she was the one who brought us here.. hehehe

Playing ‘Police and Assassins’ all of the nights and won’t get bored of it because there was no other games.. hahaha

The 2nd day, we went down a very very steep slope to the Sungai Mata Ikan to study on the stream ecology.

Catching macroorganisms, measuring temperature and pH

(Opps! I noticed that there were 2 Mirul in this picture! xp )

Akid, Shafiqah, Mimi and Mizah on the slope

Look how steep the slope was!

Well, the stream ecosytem was not as tiring as what I expected and in the afternoon, we were told that we will be going to the canopy walk which was more tiring than Ashton Trail although it was a shorter path..

Tadaa~~ Top of Temburong District..

No luck for any hornbills :( hahahha…

We didn’t head back to the center after the canopy walk.. We were brought to a damped, dark and cold waterfall

I was so tired by that time and I didn’t enjoy much here.. hahaha

Finally, we were brought back to the center and each group was assigned to do a presentation before we leave the center.. So we had only about 2 hours to prepare our presentation.. Luckily, our topics was “Nutrients Cycle In Forest Ecosystem”

Everyone trying their best on their projects

BRAINSTORMING!!

This is our poster~ Nice leh xP

And everyone did well in their presentation!!

After the presentation, the UBD’s teacher brought us our preserved insects from the oven (freshly baked) hahaha..

Me putting our insects with their labels on into the box

All the insects caught by MD students..

My favourite was Raja Brooke (the black and green butterfly) which I think was an endangered species..

But we still catch and kill it (Sorry!) hahahhaa..

The next morning, everyone were ready to go back to civilisation!! hahaha..

Group photos outside the center before heading off..

Amal and the menu at Bangar Town

Michelle and I

Aziz and Akid trying to blend into the photo..

Before and After~

Everyone was so tired after the trip..

Well, these were the things I did during my 1st term holiday.. I did enjoy and learn a lot of things in this trip.. Especially endurance which you need to push yourself to the limit or you can’t go back to the center and also teamwork!

Finally I will end with this picture

Me in Temburong Rainforest~

(Lastly, good luck for those who were still  having their exams)
